Under mentors C. Moncaster & S. Orrick, explored teen wellbeing; built a device to track sleep-environment fit and a wristband to curb impulsive behaviors; applied empathy, ideation & prototyping to misaligned sleep and school schedules, and joined youth forums with U.S. teens and guest speakers on how daily life shapes well-being.
Prototype for Teenage Sleep Deprivation
Need statement:
Chris, who is a high school student struggling with long-term sleep deprivation, need a scientific way to schedule her sleeping pattern in order to help her concentrate in class and enhance emotional regulation.
The key teen wellbeing issue I'm focusing on is classroom sleepiness, poor concentration, mood swings, and impulsive behavior—all stemming from chronic sleep deprivation affecting nearly all Chinese high schoolers due to intense academic pressure and demanding schedules. This makes the prototype universally applicable to this group.
