Biology Club
Club full name: Dr.Bio Biology Club
The largest academic club at school (73 members). Awarded the "Most Influential Club" for two consecutive semesters, ranking first in influence in the school.
Four things we have done
Experiments
I organized experiments suchgene editing (CRISPR-Cas9), RNA extraction, and rat dissections, mRNA quantification
Alumni Network
Host alumni guest speakers regularly, providing students with practical insights into biology applications, university studies, and career opportunities.
Contest Coaching
Coach members for biology competitions (USABO and BBO), resulting in 7 Gold Medals, 5 Silver Medals, and multiple honorable mentions in 2025.
Database
Created a comprehensive digital database of lab protocols and instructional videos for lab equipment use, benefiting future student cohorts.
Self-Developed mRNA Quantification Assay
Despite not having access to qPCR, we leveraged limited resources to create a self-developed workflow for quantitatively measuring mRNA. This now enables us to perform quantitative analysis of any mRNA across any cell line! Our work has paved the way for future students to carry out related projects at our school.
The results align with expectations: ACTA1 shows strong expression in skeletal muscle, FABP4 is weakly expressed due to its low abundance in these tissues, MBP is present in brain tissue but with lower expression in grey matter, and CPA1 is absent in the brain, confirming it is specific to the pancreas. GAPDH served as a reliable internal control, validating the experimental accuracy.
Event Photos

This experiment involved the quantitative analysis of mRNA expression levels in two tissue types of Sus scrofa (pig) – skeletal muscle and grey matter from the brain. Key genes analyzed include ACTA1 (muscle protein), FABP4 (fatty acid binding protein), MBP (myelin basic protein), CPA1 (pancreatic enzyme), and GAPDH (housekeeping gene for normalization).
